Made-to-Order in Czechia

How a nikku piece is made — from your idea to your door

Every nikku piece is 3D printed to order in our small studio in the Czech Republic. Nothing sits on a warehouse shelf. Here's exactly what happens between the moment you place an order and the moment it arrives.

The Process

Six steps, one studio, no warehouse

We don't outsource printing, we don't drop-ship, and we don't keep stock. The same two people designing the piece are the ones packing your box.

  1. You choose or describe a piece

Browse our ready-to-print collection or start a custom request. For custom orders, share a sketch, a reference photo, or just a written brief — we'll figure out the rest.

  2. We confirm the brief

For made-to-order items from the collection, we send a quick confirmation. For custom work, we reply within one business day with material recommendations, dimensions, lead time, and a final price before anything goes into production.

  3. Files prepared and sliced

Your model is oriented for the strongest finish, supports are placed where they won't leave marks, and the file is sliced for the printer that suits the material best.

  4. Printed in our Czech studio

We print on calibrated FDM machines using premium European-sourced filament. Print times range from a couple of hours for small pieces to a full day for larger geometric work.

  5. Hand-finished and inspected

Supports removed, edges cleaned, surface checked under good light. If anything isn't right, we reprint it before it ever ships — you don't pay for our reworks.

  6. Packed and dispatched

Wrapped in recycled tissue, boxed with right-sized packaging, and handed to the courier within 1–2 business days. You get a tracking link the moment it leaves the studio.

Materials & Finishes

What your piece is made of

We work with a tight selection of materials chosen for finish quality, durability, and lower environmental impact. If you have a specific look in mind, just ask.

PLA

Plant-based · Matte finish

Our default for most decor pieces. Made from fermented plant starches, biodegradable under industrial composting, and gives a clean matte surface with sharp geometric edges.

PETG

Durable · Subtle gloss

More impact-resistant and slightly flexible. Best for pieces that will be handled often, taken outdoors, or live in humid spaces like bathrooms.

Silk PLA

Pearlescent sheen

A premium PLA with a subtle metallic sheen. Catches light beautifully — great for statement pieces and gifts. Available in a curated palette.

Recycled PETG

Closed-loop · Earth tones

Made from recycled post-industrial PET. Slightly textured finish, available in a small earthy palette. Our most sustainable option.

Lead Time

How long it takes, end to end

Our Standards

Why made-to-order matters

Zero overproduction

Nothing is printed until you order it. No stockpiles, no clearance sales, no landfill. The piece you receive exists because you asked for it.

Quality over quantity

We can only ship what two people can hand-finish. That's a hard limit on volume — and the reason every piece gets the same level of care.

Repairable, not disposable

If a piece breaks within a year of normal use, send us a photo. We'll reprint and replace it free. We made it once — we can make it again.

Common questions

Before you order

Yes. STL, STEP, and OBJ files are all welcome. Start a custom order and attach the file there. We'll review it for printability and reply within one business day with confirmation, material suggestion, and final price.

That's most of our custom orders. A description, a hand sketch, or even reference photos from Pinterest are enough to start. We'll work with you on dimensions and shape before anything is printed.

For custom work, yes — we send render previews of the model from a few angles before production starts. Production only begins after you approve.

Up to roughly 25 × 25 × 25 cm in a single piece on our current machines. Larger work can be designed in interlocking parts — we'll mention this if your brief calls for it.
